Dates

The hackathon will run  during the 10th -12th of February 2023, and it will be held online. The deadline for the submission of your solution will be Sunday 12th of February at the end of the day (GMT +00:00). The winners will be announced on the 1st of March.

Eligibility

There are no restrictions on attendance, however each team has a minimum of 5  and a maximum of 10 participants.

Project and Submission Requirements

There are no strict rules or specifications about your submission. Depending on the approach that you choose your submission content will vary (pdf, powerpoint, source code files, etc.). We only ask that you submit your files as a .zip archive and provide clear instruction on how to navigate through your submission.

Prizes

There are 3 prizes – Gold, Silver, and Bronze – each accompanied by a gift voucher of 400 €, 300 €, and 200 € respectively for the best 3 solutions presented at the end of the Hackathon.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection

Each deliverable will be assessed based on the following 4 criteria: Design (10%), Creation (30%), Code (50%), and Analysis (10%). A more detailed description of the criteria is listed below.

Design - If you enjoy telling stories enhanced with 3D and Augmented Reality or engaging with aesthetics this theme is for you. Your deliverable will be assessed based on the following:

  1. User experience: The design should be intuitive and easy to use, with a clear and consistent layout. It should also take into account the user's needs and provide a seamless experience.

  2. Technical feasibility: The design should be realistic and achievable within the timeframe of the hackathon, taking into account the available technology and resources.

  3. Creativity and innovation: The design should be original and push the boundaries of what is currently possible with AR.

  4. Impact: The design should have a clear purpose and potential for real-world impact, such as solving a problem or improving a specific task or industry.

  5. Presentation: The design should be well-presented and effectively communicate the idea and its potential impact to the judges and audience.

Creation - Do you enjoy producing content? With this theme you can plan and develop Augmented Reality learning experience content with the help of an easy-to-use authoring toolkit (MirageXR). Your deliverable will be assessed based on the following:

  1. Realism: The scenes should look and feel realistic, with accurate lighting, textures, and object placement.

  2. Interactivity: The scenes should allow for user interaction and engagement, such as the ability to move around and interact with objects within the scene.

  3. Performance: The scenes should be optimized for smooth and efficient performance, with minimal lag or frame rate drops.

  4. Audio design: The scenes should have appropriate sound effects and background music that enhance the overall experience.

  5. Storytelling: The scenes should tell a compelling story or convey a clear message, whether it be through the use of visual cues, interactive elements, or other narrative techniques.

  6. Technical complexity: The scenes should be technically challenging, pushing the limits of what is currently possible with AR technology, and show the mastery of the developer.

  7. User experience: The scenes should be designed with the user in mind, taking into account their needs and providing a seamless and enjoyable experience.

Code - Do you enjoy coding? With this theme you can learn about AR software development in Unity (https://unity.com/) or using MirageXR (https://wekit-ecs.com/documents/miragexr) Open-Source application: You can “stand on the shoulders of giants” and implement XR for education and training:

  1. Code quality: The code should be well-organized, readable, and easy to understand, with clear variable and function names, comments, and documentation. It should also follow best practices and industry standards.

  2. Technical complexity: The code should be technically challenging, pushing the limits of what is currently possible with AR technology, and show the mastery of the developer.

  3. Performance: The code should be optimized for smooth and efficient performance, with minimal lag or frame rate drops.

  4. Scalability: The code should be designed with scalability in mind, allowing for easy expansion and modification of the project in the future.

  5. Reusability: The code should be modular and reusable, allowing for it to be reused in other projects.

  6. Compliance: The code should be compliant with any applicable laws, regulations and industry standards.

  7. Flexibility: The code should be adaptable to different use-cases and user requirements.

  8. Innovation: The code should show creativity, and be innovative in its approach to solving the problem or task at hand.

Analysis - Do you want to analyse learner behaviours? Your deliverable will be assessed based on the following:

  1. User research: The analysis should be based on user research, with a clear understanding of the user's needs, goals, and pain points.

  2. Problem-solution fit: The analysis should clearly identify the problem the project is trying to solve, and demonstrate how the design addresses that problem in a meaningful way.

  3. Competitive analysis: The analysis should include a review of similar existing solutions in the market and demonstrate how the design is different and better.

  4. Technical feasibility: The analysis should evaluate the technical feasibility of the design, taking into account the available technology and resources.

  5. User experience: The analysis should evaluate the usability and user experience of the design, taking into account the user's needs and providing a seamless experience.

  6. Impact: The analysis should evaluate the potential impact of the design on the problem or task it is trying to solve, and the potential to scale the solution.

  7. Future-proofing: The analysis should take into account the potential future developments in the field of AR and how the design can be adapted accordingly.

All submissions will be scored by the judging panel and the best 3 will be awarded.
